loss of spring clip washer September 16, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I enjoyed using this item until recently when the small spring clip washer came off the plunger thus making the screw mechanism useless due to there being no leverage, I am now looking for a replacement washer after two months use, otherwise a good idea apart from this one important fault in design
BUYER BE WARNED September 15, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought four Lightning Levers from Amazon last December - one to keep for myself and three to give away to family as part of their Christmas presents. Our one did live to see the New Year as it fell apart when the rivet-like fixture holding the pivoting arm fell out. The one I gave my parents and the one I gave my older sister fell victim to the same problem within three months. The fourth one is still working according to my other sister. 75% defect rate is hardly acceptable is it?
Great when it works July 27, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We bought four of these for Christmas 2004 - 3 gifts and one for ourselves. Of the four, only one is still working. The bar that acts as the hinge for the lever has fallen out in exactly the same manner and after limited use. When it works it really is good - however, it might be worth looking for a similar product of better manufacturing quality.
Good product, pity it didn't last... July 26, 2005 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Great at taking out corks, unfortunately its not so good at getting the cork off the corkscrew after you've got it out of the bottle. After a few months of use about 2-3 times a week it started to get difficult to remove the corks as it would not grip properly. After 6 months something snapped and now the only way to get the cork off the corkscreww is with a pair of pliers!
Worked for a while then died! March 23, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am not an avid wine drinker; I am just hopeless at opening wine bottles without looking like a total amateur. This thing made my life so much easier, and led to a serious drinking habit, as wine was no longer embarasiing to open. However... 2 years on, the darn thing has broken. I pull the handle down to push the "worm" in, but when it comes to pulling the cork out, its a non-event. I resort to the old tried and trusted tesco value corkscrew, and look like a complete idiot all over again. Works great... when it works. Don't rely on it.
