I don't know why I've taken so long to buy one of these. My neighbour has one and I kept meaning to buy one but never got round to it. So anyway I've bought this one. Can't believe how cheap they are and is superior to a pressure cooker in that the meat cooks longer and is very tender. I've just made the Pork Goulash listed in the back of the instruction manual. It's flamin' gorgeous. I think I'll be using this as much as my steamer.

I had viewed slow cooking with some scepticism before buying this unit - mainly on the basis that food cooked over such a low power could hardly become hot enough. Not only was I wrong about that but the range of recipes is wide, varied and tasty in the extreme. With three temperature settings there is good control over timings, though I tend to prefer the 'Low' setting. It might matter to prospective buyers that this model provides heat settings and capacity that tie in very well with the majority of cookery books (I particularly like the Foulsham range Slow Cooking Curries and Spicy Dishes (Slow Cooking) (Slow Cooking) (Slow Cooking), Slow Cooking from Around the Mediterranean, Fresh Ideas for Your Slow Cooker, for example.) It is so good, in fact, that I've just ordered a second one to take to our flat in France.

I had wanted a slow cooker for ages and decided on this one for two reasons - the price and the good reviews it had previously.
My first attempt at cooking with the slow cooker was poor because I used a jar of sauce instead of cooking from scratch. I was concerned that I had wasted my money but plodded on and chose a recipe in the booklet accompanying the machine. It was superb! I now understand that the whole idea of a slow cooker is to avoid the easy option of buying a jar of sauce etc. With simple ingredients you can get a superb sauce which is far superior in taste and nutrition to it's pre-made counterparts. I have since made several of the recipes in the booklet. These are a little repetitive though (chicken paprika and beef paprika) so I have just ordered 2 further recipe books specifically for the slow cooker.
The recipes included do need a little preparation beforehand but are well worth the effort and take no more than 10 or 15 minutes to prepare.
This particular machine seems very well made - I have no doubt you could break something if you threw it around so don't and it will last you! The size is bigger than I expected. We are a family of 4 and it is plenty big enough. I always seem to have some left over to freeze too.
This has to be my purchase of the year so far!!! Treat yourself!!
