GREAT May 27, 2008 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This problem of burning food/cooking to fast must have been a faulty batch of these because mine is fine half full on medium no probs i know a few people who have the 6.5 model and they have no problems either. I have looked into this and this is the only reveiw site that even mentions this. All i can say is that mine is 10/10 sorry.
CONVERTED!!! April 16, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the first slow cooker I've ever had, after "slow cooking" on the top of the stove or in the oven for years I decided to buy one of these. I have the 6.5litre, and although I've only used it 3 times I'm very pleased with it. Yes, in line with what some of the critics have said on here, this slow cooker does tend to work quite rapidly if you use the high setting (I have found this setting more useful for allowing the sauce to bubble rapidly with the lid off in order to reduce the cooking liquor), but for normal cooking the low or medium settings are fine (although the low setting should only ever be used if you intend to leave this on all day while you are at work). The lid could be a little more snug fitting, however in my (limited) experience of this slow cooker it doesn't seem to affect it's performance too badly.
excellent slow cooker March 3, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I got one of these as a prescent from my children never used one before, and have to say its great the meat is so tender joints and casseroles, currys pasta sauce etc, ideal for my family as i have four children and can feed us all its so big, i would recommend this if you have a large family, otherwise buy the smaller one.
near catastrophe February 23, 2008 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bought the 6.5 litre slow cooker, as I like to cook in one batch, then freeze portions. It is NOT a slow cooker - it bubbles furiously, I would not want to leave it unattended. I was really not very happy with it, and resorted to switching it on for half an hour then off for half an hour. However, the real problem was that on Boxing Day I cooked Venison for lunch - picked the cooker up in the kitchen to take to the dining room to serve and the black plastic handle snapped off in my hand - luckily when the cooker was only approx 2" above the work surface - had it snapped a couple of seconds later, I would have had boiling venison casserole down my body and on the carpet. I returned it immediately.
Choose another! January 18, 2008 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
I have had this product for 30 days now and I'm just about to return it to Argos on their 30 day refund guarantee. As two other users have mentioned it overcooks food, even on the low setting. I have had to bin one meal when I returned from work to find charred remains stuck to the bottom of the pot.
The pot is big - it's great for cooking large meals or joints in; however, it's far too big for cooking a family sized casserole in (I cook for 5 and it's far too big). When I purchased this item I thought that it had an autocook feature on it as I could see three different dial positions as well as the "off" position on the picture on the box. However, the settings are actually low, medium and high. Autocook is a useful feature as it automatically adjusts the temperature from high to low after the initial cooking phase. Many recipes (in the books that I use) only use high or low settings and so it remains a bit of a puzzle to me as to why there is medium setting on this model.
The accompanying recipe book is a non-starter - if you are new to slow cooking (and you decide to buy this item) then I would advise that you purchase a separate cook book.
I would advise not to buy this - you will be disappointed - you will waste time in preparation of food and money (cost of food, electrics and takeaways when you've nothing in the fridge and you return home to charred remains). There is also the disappointment factor when you think you've cooked a healthy family meal and it's either burnt to a crisp or has very little sauce/fluid to accompany the meal.
