Fantastic cook book - every recipe has been delicious April 14, 2007 43 out of 44 found this review helpful
I recently bought this book when I rediscovered my slow cooker in a box in the loft. We have tried over a dozen of the recipes so far and they have all been absolutely delicious. Each recipe is packed full of scrummie flavours. The recipes require a certain amount of preparation before you can put them in the slow cooker - so you either need to plan some extra time in the morning or each recipe tells you how to prepare the dish the previous evening - then you just chill it overnight and switch it on in the morning. The house smells delicious when you get home! I would thoroughly recommend this book.
If you have a slow cooker buy this book December 4, 2005 199 out of 200 found this review helpful
I'm in the UK and the ingredients are widely available (yes, including liquid smoke). This is a fantastic book, we use it at least twice a week. It's changed the slow cooker from being a thing lurking at the back of the cupboard to an essential kitchen resource. If mine broke tomorrow I'd replace it immediately (but with a bigger one). Just about all the recipes freeze so although they serve between 6 to 8 it means that I can feed the freezer and then have days that I don't have to cook. The long cooking time means that I can do all the preparation and washing up during school hours and then just dish it up later. There are one or two recipes that I won't cook again but most of them we've eaten time and time again. Each recipe comes with a serving suggestion - noodles, rice, salad, mashed potato. If you've not cooked it before it gives you a clue.If you have a slow cooker buy this book. We bought it for all our relatives that have a slow cooker and they all loved it (if giving it as a present I'd recommend wrapping it with a tin of Campbell's condensed chicken soup and a tin of Baxter's beef consomme as these are the most frequently used liquid ingredients)
It's not just stews... July 30, 2003 168 out of 171 found this review helpful
This book rekindled the love of our slow cooker. There are some wonderful recipes in here. Pork Columbo, Chinese chicken, pork chops florentine... all delicious. It's amazing how little liquid is added to the dish before starting, but this book has it spot on every time. If you've got a slow cooker and you've exhausted the standard winter stew concoctions, get this book.
Not at all what I had expected February 28, 2003 102 out of 133 found this review helpful
This book has got a few good recipies, however it is aimed at the American market and I doubt very much if you could get ingredients like "liquid smoke" in England!
A cookbook full of quality recipes October 1, 2002 89 out of 91 found this review helpful
I am really delighted with this book. It has the type of recipes that you just know will be great when you read them, ranging from simple comfort food to the exotic, although I found none of the ingredients difficult to locate. I also loved that the recipes were written in metric and imperial, and there are a lot of interesting tips and tricks for the slow cooker included. I would highly reccommend it to anyone.
