Product Description
This fabulous new product by Jamie Oliver is aptly named the 'flavour shaker'. Comprising of three components, this handy gadget is ideal for making salad dressings, sauces and marinades. The shaker features a handy non-slip grip and a ceramic ball inside that crushes and grinds the ingredients as it is shaken. 1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   July 15, 2008
i agree with most of the comments made....its a disappointed. It constantly leaks and it doesn't matter how hard you hold it together. I have used a small tub and it works alot better. Would not recommend this product to anyone!!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Use a pestle & mortar   June 26, 2008
My girlfriend got me this for Xmas 2006. It works OK, but is a pain to clean and/or get all the bits out to actually use them. This is especially true if you are mixing up your crushed herbs with, say, olive oil. Consequently, I have used it only a handful of times and always revert to my good old-fashioned pestle & mortar. I have always been quite a fan of Jamie Oliver, but The Flavour Shaker strikes me as a cheap commercial gimmick.

1 out of 5 stars This product should be banned !   June 3, 2008
Please beware - the screw clips can break off and become hard shards of plastic which are nearly an inch long and very sharp! I bought this and then read the reviews - thus I have never tightened the jar nor even used the ball! After less than half a dozen uses (all of which leaked!), one of the four screw clips broke off and I only noticed it when I bit into into it whilst tasting my dressing! It's very sharp and I could be very harmful if swallowed. I am very angry and think the product should be removed from the shelves. Please, please do not buy one.

1 out of 5 stars Good idea, Great looking, but very poor quality   April 21, 2008
I received one of these for Christmas and found that whilst it crushed the smaller items such as peppercorns very well, it was hopeless at things like garlic cloves (somewhat different to when Jamie uses it on tv!). It will squash a garlic clove a bit, but not like on the TV where they appear as if you had chopped them very finely by hand. Solution? Chop them very finely by hand with a good knife!!

The biggest problem with this however, was the locking mechanism which broke after only two weeks of use. Noticeable by the bits of plastic in the mixture I had prepared I was amazed to find the little locking tabs breaking off so easily. In addition it had only been used half a dozen times before this and only hand washed (though it does say upper rack dishwasher safe in the instructions).

All in all a big disappointment, and having contemplated replacing it until reading these other reviews, I would suggest anyone else gives it a wide berth until they redesign it with stronger parts.

3 out of 5 stars Good and Bad   March 22, 2008

First off this is not a revolutionaly tool of radical improvement on what has been used before. It's basically a pestle and mortar but using a ceramic ball and a closed cup. Nice idea and within limits works well. Thing you must ask yourself before you buy is how many times in your life have you used a pestle? Probably not many - which is probably how much you would use this device. Having said that if you like to make your own curry spice mixes then its pretty good - as long as you don't intend using it for liquid at all. It leaks like a sieve. Seems reasonably made but I suspect that the ball would eventually damage the inside, expecially if one is vigorous with the shaking. If it was better made and if you did crush a lot of spice etc. then this would be very good. However if you only do the occasional bit of crushing then it's a bit of a waste, expecially given that it's not liquid tight or particularly well made.
