1 out of 5 stars I am throwing it away after less than 3 months!!!   September 23, 2008
I purchased this steamer to replace my old one because after reading the reviews it seemed like a safe buy. Maybe I have been unlucky but after less than 3 months I have had two major issues with it. The first was that I left water in the bottom with the element after using it and it turned mouldy... this never happened with my first steamer. Anyway after disinfecting it the smell finally went away and I used it again. Now the element has got burnt and everytime I clean it it just burns again on the next use which makes all the food taste like burnt element (UGH!) So I have given up and thrown it away replacing it with an old fashioned three tiered stainless steel steamer from M&S for 9.50 wish I had done that in the first place.

4 out of 5 stars Handy Steamer   September 9, 2008
Like this steamer as packs away nicely, cooks rice great really seperate grains, and can have veg as crunchy as you like, or not as you wish just by cooking for longer.
A useful tip when buying a steamer look for one (like this) that has handles on the outside of the water drip tray so it can be easily picked up and used in gravy/stocks.

This will change the way you cook. Veggie's taste so much better when you steam compared to boiling! This is an excellent product!

5 out of 5 stars Back in love with my steamer!   January 26, 2008

My first steamer was the Morphy Richards 48770 which I totallly took for granted - I did not know how many lemons were on the market. It served me well for many years. I finally let it go when the timer knob broke. Naively, i bought my next one presuming price determined quality - the Russell Hobbs 'you are what you eat' managed to go through the resevoir of water in 20 mins without producing much steam so I was constantly having to refill. it was slow to get going and I never got the hang of putting the bases back in the baskets. It was useless.

So, my new Morphy Richards 48755. It is neat, taking up less space. It got going quickly. After 25 mins it had barely touched the water resevoir, and the veg. were overcooked (I will have to adjust my cooking times) The baskets are going to be so much easier to use/keep clean as the sides lift off the basket base also making dishing-up easier. my only query is how difficult it will be to refill the resevoir during use - but since it used so little water I do not see this a problem. Only day one but already impressed. Now, can anyone recommend a s/s kettle that will last longer than 18 months, doesn't leak, explode etc?

This steamer is great. I thought it takes ages for water to start steaming etc., and I am positively surprised. After 1-2 min steamer is already working. After 20-30 min. all vegetables are cooked and you can enjoy your meal. Food taste great. Very easy to clean-just rinse under the tap and leave it to dry :) Just have to figure out how to cook rice and pasta.
