Amazon.co.uk Review This electric popper uses hot air instead of oil to produce a healthy, grease-free snack. Measured with the included cup so there's no guesswork, the kernels are poured into the center of the popper, the transparent viewing lid attached, and the cup positioned on top to keep popping kernels contained. Only then is the popper plugged in, because the 1200-watt motor gets to work quickly, churning out up to four litres of popcorn in just two and a half minutes. While the chute on the transparent lid directs the popcorn into a bowl (not included), the force is vigorous and a high-sided bowl is recommended. If desired, the measuring cup can hold up to 85g of butter that melts as popping takes place. With the lid on, the popper stands just over 30cm tall and 18cm wide. Rival covers the popper with a two-year warranty.--Ann Bieri, Amazon.com

popping corn everywhere? July 31, 2008 Overall a good product, but I find that kernals do tend to go everywhere when popping. I also found that plastic top got very brittle after a few months usage and cracked easily. Machine still usable after cracks, but finally broke completely yesterday, so am in the market for a replacement already (only had it 3 years or so). Excellent way to have a tasty snack- or quick dinner- even with the faults.
Do yourself a favour and choose another product July 11, 2008 I've had this product for over a year and frankly it wasn't one of my best purchases so hardly gets used. I dusted it down last week and remembered exactly why it doesn't get used often. The machine does not pop all the kernals and those it does pop have a tendency to fly all over the place which results in a non amusing game of "move the bowl quickly". The machine also gets extremely hot very quickly so Heaven help anybody that brushes a finger against it whilst it's attempting to do what it was made for. All in all, the negative points outweigh the plus points of this product.
Flying Hot Kernels: Be Warned!!!! October 6, 2007 I've had it with this product!!! I should have ditched it three years ago when hot flying kernels whizzed through my kitchen and one got lodged in the shirt of my toddler, burning his neck. He's still scarred from it. Wrote the manufacturer and they tried to say I used the wrong kind of popcorn. Or I was standing too close. Or something. None is true.
Basically, the kernels whizz around like mad, over half of which shoot out unpopped while the popped kernels ricochet around the mouth of the dispenser. About 80% of the popped corn goes into my large bowl: the rest end up on the counter, the floor, the sink, etc.
Meanwhile, a good 50% of my kernels don't pop. Then I fish them out of the bowl and try again. And again. Eventually, I get something like 80% popped.
What a waste! Why haven't a bought a new one sooner???? Anyway, I'm doing that right now, but had to warn you -- this isn't a safe product, in my opinion, and there must be better ones on the market.
Excellent Purchase! February 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just a note about this popcorn maker. I bought this as a healthy alternative to the fat full cinema & microwave popcorn that I was becoming addicted to - I am SO glad I did!
It is fantastic. Yes, there are a few "unpopped" corns but, hey, there was in the microwave stuff. This is all fat free and VERY cheap. One bag of kernels last for AGES and although its quite tasteless without salt - I actually like it plain. Having recently given up smoking, I have the munchies and this truly satisfys these!
There IS an On/Off Switch (I think I read in someone elses review that there wasnt...) and Ive not had any problems at all. I use a big plastic mixing bowl to put under the chute where the popcorn comes out - so hardly any goes on the floor etc.
I am now going to be buying my mum one of these for Mothers Day - she loves it too and am really pleased I purchased this despite some of the other "not so great" reviews. Enjoy!
Unpopped Kernels December 30, 2006 My Daughter bought this machine for me for Christmas, and although I love popcorn and was excited to receive it, it doesn't quite do what it's supposed to. I have tried different brands of popping corn and everytime I use it, at least half of the kernels flirt out of the machine unpopped, making it quite wasteful. The corn that does pop is very nice and you can flavour it with lots of different things or just add a little salt if you want to have it plain, but the amount of wasted corn that hasn't popped makes it un-economical to use. It is easy to use although the popped corn comes out quite quickly and goes all over the place, which adds to the fun I suppose, on the other hand the unpopped kernels are red hot and dangerous so it's not really suitable for children to use.
