Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
The Vacuvin system for food and wine storage is pretty amazing--while some wine lovers debate its merits for saving wine, you just can't argue about having extra-crisp cereal after a month of storage. Specially designed rubber seals are centred in the lid of each storage container--you fit the vacuum into the seal and pump the handle until it becomes too difficult to continue. At this point, all the air has been removed from the container and you can be assured that fresh food is well protected. The wine seals work in a similar manner, except the rubber seal fits directly into the bottle. Results here are mixed--some folks insist that there's no difference between the sealed bottle and one left open, while others insist that the sealed bottle provides a major improvement. Like so much with wine, it may be up to the individual palate--but no harm is ever done by testing. --Jill Lightner

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars By no means essential, but certainly not a wasted buy   May 1, 2006
I bought this set mainly for helping red wine last longer. Sometimes I'll leave half a bottle for up to a week - with this easy to use pump it doesn't go 'vinegary' and off colour like it used to. I've also found the food savers helpful - the smallest one is good for storing multiple bags of spices, which smell so strong they'd otherwise taint the other items in my cupboard. The larger ones get crammed with half used bags of sugar and ground nuts - the vacuum storage stops my brown sugar going so hard, and the nuts stay fresher longer.

As the another reviewer states, the cylindrical design isn't particularly useful for fridges, or stacking next to each other. However the tubs do stack nicely sturdily on top of one another.

4 star rating because the product does what it promises, and seems durable (I've had mine over a year now). My only reservation is the shape. Finally, as I mention in the title, it's not an essential buy, but if you're tempted by what you've read, you won't be disappointed.

For all you anglers out there! Save 10 on a branded pellett pump and get one of these. It does the same job!!

This set is very useful and easy to use. The vacuum produced using the pump seems very good and the pump is not too difficult to use, needing only a few presses, it gradually becomes stiffer and harder to press, letting you know you have extracted the air. Haven't had it for long but think this will be good for keeping bagged salads for longer than the one day they usually last after opening. The only problem is that all the containers are cylindrical, which don't fit in fridge and freezer too easily. When vacuvin introduce some standard box shapes I will certainly be purchasing them.
